Current regulations prescribe that the frequency response, carried out in the room where the source is located, between adjacent third octaves must not have a difference in level of more than 6 dB.
The traditional pink noise (being pseudo-random) during measurements is displayed on the sound level meter with considerable fluctuations of the various third octaves.
This does not allow for a precise instantaneous reading of the value.
Accuracy is only achieved after averaging several seconds of acquisition.
In contrast, using our exclusive ‘Fast Pink Noise’ on the sound level meter the instantaneous display is perfectly stable, without any oscillation.
This makes it immediate to assess whether adjacent third octaves show level differences of more than 6 db.
The presence of the internal equaliser further facilitates linearity in the frequency response.
Failure to comply with this requirement is sufficient to invalidate the measurement in court cases.
